FAR, or Floor to Area Ratio, is the relationship between the building size and the lot size, measured in square feet. Lexington United for Livability strongly supports the FAR Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment as a smart growth strategy for our city. Below is a letter, dated September 23rd that Lexington United for Livability sent to City Council on the subject.
Letter to Council
Dear Council Member,
As Lexington’s population growth continues to outpace our housing development, it is critical- now more than ever- to adopt Smart Growth Strategies to ensure Lexington remains inclusive and accessible for all. Lexington United for Livability strongly supports FAR ZOTA 20-00002 as a Smart Growth strategy to provide Lexington the flexibility to meet residents’ needs. As many Councilmembers pointed out at the August 27th meeting, this policy is in alignment with the principles adopted in the 2018 Comprehensive Plan. The FAR ZOTA increases the flexibility for developers to meet neighborhoods’ needs by providing more diverse housing options. This policy embodies Lexington’s long held mantra of “Build up, Not out” to protect our farmland and serve our residents. We hope that you will join us in supporting this Smart Growth Strategy, and vote to adopt FAR ZOTA 20-00002.
With Gratitude
